I’m incredibly grateful for Alaska Safe Riders and their continued investment in building a safer backcountry here in Alaska. I’m thrilled to be heading to Whistler for the International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW)! This is an incredible opportunity to learn more about snow science, avalanche safety, and the motorized industry while connecting with professionals who are doing this work around the world. I’m especially excited to continue learning from and connecting with the team at Soul Rides, who I’ve already begun mentorship and shadowing with as I continue developing my own avalanche education and instructor skills. Today marks 2 years. There are still days where my mind thinks you’re just at heart lake and for a moment my heart beats without the dull ache that normally changes its rhythm. For a moment you’re just in the backcountry, doing what you love. Today I won’t fall claim to grief and your memory. Today I’m taking a Wilderness First Aid course to chase my dreams and I’m excited to see how much I already know from the life you gave us. Building shelters, avoiding injury, and surviving was our norm. I miss you more than I ever imagined I could. My friend wrote a letter to her husband that left us too young that said “you took a part of me that wasn’t mine to keep” and I believe that to be true to anyone you love. You took a part of me with you dad, but you gave me so much of you. I’m lucky for the years we had. 🖤
