![[West 🦁] An elusive peak for me. Across 3 years, I gave this hike 4 attempts. The first 3 attempts were all in the winter and didn’t get very far. The first time I wanted to summit the west lion, I had yet to understand what seasons were and didn’t realize there would be so much snow on the BC coastal range in February. At this point, I could count the number of times I’d seen snow on one hand. On my second attempt, I brought microspikes and gaiters. Again, we did not get very far. On my third attempt, we reached the base of the scramble but decided our snowshoes were not suitable for the icey conditions.
Alas, on this 4th attempt, I waited for enough snow to melt and reveal the dry scrambling route. The crux of the scramble gave me more anxiety than I was expecting. I’ve spent the last year almost always roped up on tough objectives and rarely faced lethal exposure. It was refreshing to feel nervous again.](https://jxghcsuztjbsoxrghbaq.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/social-thumbnails/instagram/17957561397211242.jpg)
![[Yahoo Creek] We are pleased to claim the 3rd recorded descent of this tedious canyon nestled in Lions Bay. This canyon was packed full of log jams, slippery basalt, and less than straightforward rappels which gave way to reveal a truly hidden gem: A 50m waterfall right under the Tunnel Bluffs trail!
After a long 10 hours spent in a wetsuit, I will never go back there. We placed 6 natural anchors and updated the hardware left on 5 sets of bolts placed in 2015. The canyon should now be easier to run for the next few years. By the time we got to the last rappel, we were nearly out of anchor building material and resorted to double strand rappelling off of a tree 😅. This canyon tested our problem solving ability but luckily Noah and I had been practicing rope skills on a biweekly basis and were able to come up with plans to get us out of a major predicament. I would’ve loved to photograph the 50m waterfall with my DSLR but it took some water damage while taking the photo on the second slide and would not turn on until I dried it out at home.](https://jxghcsuztjbsoxrghbaq.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/social-thumbnails/instagram/18166274191460308.jpg)
